Aunt Jemima Paper Plate & Place Mat
These two very collectible pieces of Black Americana are from the 1950's. The paper plate measures 9 1/4" in diameter. The paper place mat measures 10" by 14" and tells the story of Aunt Jemima. This sensational and very rare Little Black Sambo Riding an Elephant Salt & Pepper Shaker Set is from the 1940's and is a total of 5 1/2" tall. The elphant shaker is stamped on the bottom with, "Banana Importing Company, New York, NY". The elephant shaker also has the original foil sticker reading, "Made in Japan". Little Black Sambo String Holder
This very collectible Vintage "Little Black Sambo" Black Americana String Holder was produced in 1943 by a small company now out of business in Paducah, Kentucky: Keystone Studio (see the additional photo of one of their ads). It measures 8 1/2" high and is made of chalk. Its paint is original and it is in very good condition - having no chips or cracks. But remember this is chalk ware and it does show slight crazing due to age. Also this being chalk ware there are imperfections that are characteristic of items that are made of chalk. It still has its original wire hanger on the back for hanging on the wall. There is a place in the back for a ball of twine. The string comes out of his mouth. Incised on the top is "Copyright 1943 SAMBO" (see the additional photos). While I do not agree with the production of this string holder, it is a piece of legitimate Black American History and is therefore collectible. If you are a collector of string holders or Black Americana you will want this one!

"Completely in the Dark"

We just unpacked this fantastic advertising string holder that was one of several that belonged to my late aunt who got me started collecting many years ago. During the past 40 years that I have been collecting I have only seen a very, very few of these. We are just now unpacking much of what she had collected over the last 30 to 70 years. It had hung in a smoke free home/antique shop for years and then packed away. If you collect string holders or Black memorabilia then you will definitely want this one! Vintage A & P Grocery Advertising String Holder
This very rare Black Americana A&P Grocery Advertising String Holder is made of chalk and measures 7 1/2" high. It also is a Kitchen Grocery List Reminder. It is from the 1940s-50s and is in very good condition - having all of its original paint. It has the original A&P tag that came with it. It is pictured in the 14th Edition of the "Garage Sale & Flea Market Annual" on page 429 for $545. It has sold at Antique shows and online for over $650.
