Most of the collectible toothbrush holders were made in prewar Japan and were modeled after popular comic strip, Disney and nursery rhyme characters. Since many were made of bisque and decorated with unfired paint (cold paint), it's not uncommon to find them in less-than-perfect painted condition. The most popular are the ones that not only hold toothbrushes but also have the tray at the foot for holding the toothpaste tube too.
