The Shawnee Pottery Company opened in Zanesville, Ohio from 1937-1961. They produced inexpensive novelty ware (vases, flowerpots and figurines) as well as a very successful line of figural cookie jars, creamers and salt and pepper shakers. In 1937 they began production of their most popular dinnerware line called White Corn. In 1946 the line was expanded and the color changed to a more natural yellow hue. It was marketed under the name Corn King and was produced from 1946 to 1954. Then the colors changed again. Kernels became lighter and the shucks a darker green. This variation was called Corn Queen. Sadly the company closed in 1961. |
