The Nelson McCoy Sanitary Stoneware Company was established in Roseville, Ohio in 1910 by Nelson McCoy with the help of his father, J.W., who had opened a pottery of his own in 1899. A year later his father, J.W. McCoy formed the Brush-McCoy Pottery with George Brush, who had just lost his pottery less than one year after it was founded in 1907, locating their headquarters in Zanesville, Ohio. In 1918 after a fire in Zanesville had detroyed the manufacturing portion of their plant, all the Brush-McCoy production was contained in their Roseville, Ohio plant. In 1925 after J.W.'s death the McCoy family withdrew their interest and the name of the firm was changed to The Brush Pottery. In 1933 the Nelson McCoy Sanitary Stoneware Company became known as the Nelson McCoy Pottery Company producing novelty artware, cookie jars and dinnerware. More than 200 cookie jars of every theme and description were produced. The company closed it's doors in the late 1980s. |

This wonderful Brush Squirrel with Top Hat Cookie Jar is 12" high. It is marked on the bottom with, "W15 USA". Made in the early 1950's. This cookie jar is not a reproduction but is an original!
