From about 1910 until sometime in the 1950s winners of carnival games everywhere in the United States were awarded chalkware items in the form of figurines, banks and string holders, most of which were modeled after Kewpie dolls, the Lone Ranger, Hula girls, comic characters, etc. The assortment was vast and varied. They ranged in size from about 5" to 16". When stuffed animals became available they quickly replaced the chalkware items because concessionists found that they could simply throw them into a box without fear of damage and so ended an era.
