This very collectible "Amos" String Holder is made of chalk and was produced in the 1953. It measures 7 1/2" in height. It is one in a set of two: "Amos 'N' Andy" series. It is in very good condition. All the paint is original – with some very light crazing and wear due to age (Please see Additional photos). Remember - this is chalk ware and has the characteristics of such. It still has its original wire hanger on the back for hanging on the wall. There is a place in the back for twine. The string comes out his mouth.
This fantastic string holder was one of several that belonged to my late aunt who got me started collecting many years ago. During the past 40 years that I have been collecting I have only seen a very, very few of these. We are just now unpacking much of what she had collected over the last 30 to 70 years. It had hung in a smoke free home/antique shop for years and then packed away. If you collect string holders or if you collect black Americana then you will want to bid on this one!
